The Ethereum Protocol Fellowship (EPF) has officially wrapped up its fifth cohort, designated as Study Group 2025, representing a significant achievement in its ongoing efforts to strengthen the Ethereum ecosystem. The conclusion of this cohort was marked by EPF Day at Devcon in Bangkok, highlighting the accomplishments of a varied group of fellows who dedicated five months to Ethereum core development, as reported by Ethereum’s official blog. The most recent cohort has implemented a series of significant changes designed to enhance the fellowship experience. The program’s duration has been officially extended from four to five months, providing participants with extra time to enhance their projects. Additionally, the cohort was preceded by a 10-week Protocol Study Group that equipped participants with a foundational understanding of the Ethereum protocol, leading to a more streamlined onboarding process.
The EPF Day event took place on two occasions for this cohort, initially at the EthCC in Brussels at the program’s outset, followed by a second occurrence at Devcon in Bangkok. The recent events provided fellows with a platform to showcase their projects while facilitating valuable interactions with peers and mentors. In May 2024, a competitive selection process yielded over 300 applications, from which 20 participants were granted stipends to engage in essential research and development initiatives. The program saw an influx of 25 new participants who joined without prior permission, bringing the total number of active fellows to 30 by the conclusion of the cohort. More than 500 weekly updates were submitted, showcasing the vibrant and effective involvement of participants.
Fellows engaged in a diverse range of projects, working alongside mentors from prominent client and research teams including Grandine, Prysm, Lighthouse, and others. The projects in question have delivered not only valuable learning experiences but have also made noteworthy contributions to the Ethereum ecosystem. The EPF5 repository houses essential resources for the program, encompassing development updates and project proposals. All projects and resources are available as open-source, promoting a collaborative atmosphere that supports continuous research and development within the Ethereum community.
The Protocol Study Group is set to implement a revised format for 2025, featuring an intensive two-week session complemented by six weeks of fresh lectures delivered by core developers.
